Power Factor Correction

Power Factor Correction

Chapmans Electrical are you local E-Pro approved Power Factor Correction energy saving experts in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Power factor describes how efficiently electrical power is being consumed, either by a single piece of equipment or across an entire factory or business. It is therefore an important issue which should be considered, with huge potential for energy savings.

Chapmans Electrical was established as a family business in 1925 and is still family run today. Our core values of honesty and integrity, combined with high standards and commitment to provide a quality service remain unchanged 90 years later. Chapmans is truly a name you can trust.

Based in Cradley Heath in the Black Country, just outside Birmingham, West Midlands, with an army of engineers and fleet of vans that extends our power factor correction service to most of the Birmingham and West Midlands region. Beyond neighbouring Stourbridge, Dudley, Halesowen, Wolverhampton and West Bromwich to cover all areas including Worcester, Solihull, Walsall, Sutton Coldfield, Shrewsbury and further afield.

The Power Factor of an alternating current electrical system is defined as the ratio of the real power flowing to the load, to the apparent power in the circuit.  Real power is the capacity of the circuit for performing work in a particular time. Apparent power is the product of the current and voltage of the circuit. Power factor is expressed as a number between 0 and 1, with 1 representing perfectly efficient usage of power in the circuit.

When the power factor of a factory, machine or building is less than one, which in reality most are, then more current is drawn from the electrical supply to deliver the power required by the electrical equipment. Energy suppliers often penalise poor power factor with what are known as reactive charges.

Chapmans Electrical can install power factor correction equipment to balance the load and bring the power factor closer to ideal, which improves electrical efficiency, reduces current drawn from the supply and reduces reactive penalties. Energy savings can be substantial, but will vary depending on initial power factor. There is no one size fits all solution.

At Chapmans, the needs of our customer are always at the forefront of the decision making process. We will work with you, offering guidance and advice to first assess your needs. We will perform a site survey in which we take all necessary details and measurements and then design and specify power factor correction equipment tailored exactly to meet your requirements. We can then predict estimated savings and return on investment.

We can also offer our maintenance and repair services for when your power factor correction equipment has been installed

As E-Pro approved energy management professionals of Marshall-Tufflex energy management solutions for single or three phase supplies and with 90 years of experience behind us, you can be assured that we have an in-depth understanding of current energy saving technologies and are experts in our field.

What our Customers have to say:

Stars

The showroom was impressive with wide range of choice, a warm greeting was given by Lisa, who was both helpful and knowledgeable to answer our questions. Lisa is most certainly an asset to the company and would recommend Chapmans for the excellent service received so far and pleased we could purchase locally. Well done to Chapmans.
