In the UK, the average single phase mains electrical supply voltage is 242 volts. This is quite high compared to other countries. Electrical appliances with the CE mark must be capable of working anywhere between 207 and 253 volts.

Voltage optimisation is an established technology that manages incoming voltage and reduces it to a level more suitable for the electrical equipment being used. An optimised single phase supply voltage will normally be in the region of 220 volts but there is no one size fits all solution and optimal voltage differs depending on the load being supplied.
