Will you lose TV channels after
April 6th 2011?
Analogue television in the Central TV region is being switched off in 2011 so that digital television received through aerials can be extended.
There are two separate switchover events in this area:
The Wrekin and Bromsgrove Transmitters
April 6th (Stage 1) & April 20th (stage 2)
Sutton Coldfield Transmitter
September 7th (Stage 1) & September 21st (stage 2)
What will this mean to you?
Still on analogue?
If you are still watching analogue television and haven’t yet got any digital equipment when switchover happens you will lose BBC 2 at stage 1 and the rest of your television reception at stage 2.
Watching Freeview, BT Vision or Top-up TV?
You will need to re-tune your digital TV or box at each switchover stage. You may also have other equipment, such as VCRs, that could be affected.
Watching Sky TV, Virgin media or Freesat?
The TV sets that you are watching these on will be unaffected; however, you may still have other equipment which will be affected.
You will need to consider all the appliances in your house as each one will need to be retuned or replaced. Is your bedroom TV digital? Is your VCR or DVD recorder digital?
You are unlikely to have to replace your aerial - if you have good reception now it is likely that this will continue - there is no such thing as a "digital aerial". However, if you currently have poor analogue reception, then you may need to replace it. We would recommend waiting until after switchover to see if your picture is affected.
