Have you thought about LED Lighting? You need to. Here’s why..
LED lighting has been around for a number of years now and the technology has matured. LED lights are now mainstream and here to stay.
Lighting is often taken for granted. Most people probably haven’t thought about what type of lights they have or indeed why that is. Recent legislative changes are set to bring lighting out of the darkness and on to centre stage. As a technological leader, Chapmans is ahead of the game and poised to guide you through the labyrinth.
You’ve probably heard that LED lighting is very energy efficient. That means it typically uses less electricity to produce a set level of light output than other types of lighting. An LED light will have a much lower Wattage specified than you are perhaps used to seeing with less energy efficient varieties. If you’re translating existing wattage’s to LED equivalents it can be difficult to know what will be suitable and where to begin.
LED lighting typically far outlasts less energy efficient alternatives too, meaning it should make savings in the long term as well as the short.
There have been recent changes in legislation which are designed to phase out old inefficient forms of lighting. Specifically Halogen lights. A great invention and very widely used, their time has come – in the same way as it did for old fashioned filament bulbs a few years ago.
Halogen is to be phased out, beginning with some varieties as early as September this year, but the majority will be in 2018. It is anticipated that this will make replacing them like-for-like increasingly difficult, which could cause frustration later and possible danger & downtime if it leaves you in the dark.
This phasing out will begin with mains voltage directional halogen lamps, which will start disappearing next month. Essentially spot lamps, usually with a parabolic reflector, found everywhere from shop fittings to bathroom ceilings. Often designated PAR16 or GU10.
Because of this we are expecting a high demand for equivalent replacements with LED lighting over the coming months and the next few years as other halogen formats come under the knife.. It pays to be prepared and to make plans now.
LED lighting is available in many formats and ratings, virtually everything now has a suitable LED equivalent, from high output flood lighting to cosy and dimmable domestic lighting. Unlike halogen, LED lights are also available in a range of colours, including soft warm or cold hard white.
You may decide these changes herald time for a long overdue lighting scheme replacement more suited to your needs. Chapmans was established way back in 1925, when gas lighting was slowly being replaced with electrical lights. We’ve seen technology change over the years and been a part of it. We are here to help and can design, specify and install LED lighting at any scale.
Contact us today, or visit our showroom, to find out how these changes are likely to affect you, talk things through and plan a solution which will suit both your lighting requirements and your budget.
The sun is shining on us this Black Country Day, as it always does of course. 🌞 There is alot going on around the region as we all take a day to appreciate some Black Country culture and take pride in our part of the world.
We’re flying the flag above the shop, so let us know when you see it. A honk will do, or better yet, come in and say hello! Follow us on Twitter or Facebook for up to the minute news and offers.
Chapmans started as electrical contractors way back in 1925. We’re still in the same place today, a bit of a local landmark on Reddal Hill Road, and flying the Black Country flag. Here’s how the business looked in both 1927 and again later on in the war years, around 1940.
It’s grown a bit since then ay it! We’re pleased to be able to say that Chapmans is still an independent family business to this day. We now have an army of engineers and large fleet of vans and serve the whole West Midlands. Our heritage gives us a focus on quality and providing good customer service for customers of all sizes.
We’re proud of the Black Country, our place within it, and our local community.
If you remember, back in April, super-fit Chapmans engineer Scott Moore and close friend Rikki Theodosi tackled the National Three Peaks Challenge in a heroic effort to raise money and awareness for Mary Stevens Hospice, based locally in Oldswinford, Stourbridge. Hiking and clambering their way to the peaks of Mount Snowdon, Scafell Pike and the awe inspiring Ben Nevis in memory of Scott’s late step father, Doug Jones. They raised a fantastic total for the charity, which relies on donations like these for over 80% of it’s funding.
Barely three months after their mountaineering challenge the intrepid duo are again testing the boundaries of stamina, only this time there are three of them..
From right to left: Scott Moore and Rikki Theodosi who you’ve seen before and the very brave Andrew Baxter
A handsome bunch, as we’re sure you’ll agree. The third of the trio who will join them for this challenge is another close friend, the very brave Andrew Baxter. If you’ve followed along with their adventures you’ll understand why we say brave. Their final ascent, of Ben Nevis, took an unexpected and really quite dangerous turn when they suddenly found themselves in snowy white out conditions, crawling up the mountain on hands and knees. Determined to reach the summit to achieve their funding goal they battled on and, purely by chance, met with a guided group of climbers who led them the rest of the way.
This time though, perhaps wisely, they will be leaving their crampons in the cupboard and taking to the streets with a mammoth Coast to Coast Bike Ride – topping an incredible 140 miles in just 3 Days!
Again they are asking for your donations, with all the money raised going to Mary Stevens Hospice so do please be generous. It is a very deserving charity and one we are very glad to lend our support to at Chapmans. In their own words..
Mary Stevens Hospice provides specialist holistic care free of charge for adults with life-limiting illnesses and their families in the Dudley Borough. More than 80% of the £2.5m annual costs are paid for by donations and funds raised by supporters from a compassionate, local community.
Initially announced just a few short weeks after the completion of their previous challenge and now fully planned, they are ready to go. We’re assured they are prepared for all weathers this time around.
On Sunday the 24th of July Scott, Rikki and Andrew will be departing from Whitehaven on the West coast. Over the next 3 days they hope to cover an astounding 140 miles to reach the East coast at Tynemouth, arriving on Tuesday the 26th.
We will, of course, keep you updated of their progress once they’re underway so please dig deep for this great cause and epic challenge. You can make a donation online via the group’s JustGiving page. If you’d like to leave a donation for them while at Chapmans, just let somebody know.
We hope you will join us in supporting Scott, Rikki and Andrew in this extraordinary challenge which although coast to coast encompasses plenty of up and down along the way too!
What better way for Chapmans to mark the American holiday Independence Day on 4th of July than to tell you all about this fantastic LG American Style Frost Free Fridge Freezer. Top value with Euronics Hot Summer Deals at just £899.99
You may feel it’s difficult to get very excited about a fridge freezer but this American Style side-by-side model from LG, in platinum steel finish, may just change your mind..
Being American Style it has both the fridge and the freezer next to each other with full height opening doors. They’re great for ease of access, keeping everything convenient and well organised.
LG include some really useful features in the catchily named GSL545PVYV. Not least of which is it’s size!
With some 540 litres total capacity it has plenty of storage for modern families. American style, as with most fridge freezers, typically have a larger fridge than freezer and the GSL545PVYV is no exception. The cavernous fridge tips the scales at a cool 362 litres and the freezer at 162 litres, so there should be ample storage space for the weekly shop.
Size is just the beginning. Being full height lends itself to having deep drawers and plenty of space on the shelves, as you can see, with the added bonus of full height door storage too.
LG include a clever Ice Maker into the freezer door which can produce either crushed ice or ice cubes at the touch of a button. The GSL545PVYV also has a built-in water chiller, so you have fresh cool water on tap. Unlike some models which need to be plumbed in to your mains pipework at home, this one comes conveniently with a 3.5 litre reservoir which you simply fill up from the tap.
If you’ve not had one before, it’s surprising how quickly you grow accustomed to having the water chiller and ice cubes at your fingertips. You’ll soon find you wonder how you ever lived without one!
The GSL545PVYV comes with large LED internal lighting which provides ample illumination, and being LED of course are much more reliable and energy efficient than old fashioned bulbs.
Inside the fridge, which is on the right, are four height adjustable glass shelves, a wire bottle rack and five door compartments. There are two drawers at the bottom of the fridge too. The top one is a moist balance crisper with a humid environment, that helps to keep your fruit and veg fresh. Below it is the Zero Zone bin which is actually kept at 0°C, great for storing any fresh fish or meat. This model also benefits from having a linear compressor, which is able to react quickly to changes in temperature and humidity, to keep your food fresh.
There are storage options in the freezer, with both drawers and shelves. It has five glass shelves and two drawers. This is another one of those things you will wonder how you ever lived without. Shelves are ideal for storing everyday items, while the drawers allow you to separate certain foods from the other items. A good place for the Stilton we think.
Being Frost Free you won’t have to worry about ice build up which can otherwise occur, and the chore of manually defrosting or having to finding somewhere else to store your food while the ice melts.
Combining fridge and freezer into one appliance is not just convenient and stylish. It usually helps to keep the running costs low too. This LG American style combo unit is no different and it comes with a well deserved A+ energy efficiency rating.
Save a cool £50 on this fabulous self-cleaning Bosch 8kg Heat Pump Tumble Dryer with Euronics Hot Summer Deals here on your high street at Chapmans. Now just £449.99..
Yes, you did read that right. The Bosch WTW83260GB is a self cleaning condensing tumble dryer. Great value, with some fantastic features, low noise and even an interior light.
Let’s start with a bit of backstory and explain what all this means..
There are two main types of tumble dryer. Ones that need a ventilation hose and ones that don’t. Tumble dryers traditionally vented moist hot air along a plastic hose, through an exterior wall of your house to an outside vent. This type of dryer is still available and if you have a vent already fitted and can place a tumble dryer on the exterior wall then they may be a good choice for you. We have them in stock, but please read on.
The second type of tumble dryer is a condensing or condenser dryer. These don’t typically need to be placed beside an exterior wall and don’t need a vent hose or hole in your wall. They work by collecting the water extracted from your wet washing into a built-in container, which you then empty down a drain.
You’re probably wondering by now what a Heat Pump is and where it fits in to the scheme of things, but we’ll get to that. It doesn’t involve water.
Condensing tumble dryers like this clever WTW83260GB from Bosch, perhaps unsurprisingly, make use of something called a condenser to precipitate water from the hot moist air in the machine. The condenser itself consists of a number of metal fins or plates and the hot moist air is routed through them.
As well as collecting moisture, condensers tend to collect all manner of fluff and lint from the moist air too. Because of this they should be regularly taken out of the machine and flushed through with water to prevent a build up of gunk which can prevent them from doing their job.
This fantastic self cleaning Bosch dryer means that is no longer necessary! At the end of each cycle it uses the waste water it collects to automatically flush the condenser free of any fluff and lint, ensuring it stays clean and working at maximum efficiency at all times. It also saves you the burden of remembering to clean it yourself.
This tumble dryer has many talents though and they don’t end there.
Heat Pump technology recycles the hot air inside the dryer for maximum efficiency. Dryers that a use heat pump are among some of the most efficient available. They use a lower temperature to dry your clothes, which in turn uses less energy. This all adds up to the Bosch WTW83260GB earning itself an impressive A++ energy efficiency rating.
This clever tumble dryer can dry up to 8kg of laundry meaning it can keep pace with most washing machines, straight out of one and into the other a load at a time. With 15 drying programmes available, including one for Wool, it comprehensively meets the needs of most households.
Some of the drying programmes include..
It even has a Super Quick cycle which takes just 40 minutes to complete, for when you’re in a hurry.
It has a drying sensor inside it which continually monitors the moisture levels and knows when your laundry is dry. It will stop by itself to avoid over drying and to help prevent creasing. The incredibly useful interior light makes it simple to see into the depths of the drum and anti vibration design makes this a very quiet machine.
All this with £50 off, completely FREE delivery, a 2 Year Guarantee and with professional installation by our own highly trained engineers from just £20.
Save a whopping £100 on this Neff Slide & Hide Built-In Electric Oven with CircoTherm Fan in Euronics Hot Summer Deals here on your highstreet at Chapmans. Now just £699.99
The Neff B57CR23N0B is a smart built-in oven which has been thoroughly thought through and designed with you in mind. Not only is it appealing to look at, integrated into your kitchen units, it makes cooking a delight and cleaning is a breeze. It is large enough, 71 litre capacity, and intelligent enough to suit most family homes and has many great features to enhance energy efficiency.
The innovative CircoTherm fan assisted oven works differently from normal fan ovens. Rather than blowing the air over a heating element, Neff sucks the hot air in and circulates it through special vents inside the oven for a controllable even cook. It’s often the simplest of inventions which make the biggest difference.
With 12 cooking programmes there is always an ideal setting for whatever you wish to put in it. This clever oven can even direct the heat at just a single shelf for really economical cooking. This and the other great features earn this oven a fantastic A+ energy rating.
Quadruple glazing ensures the heat is kept where it’s supposed to be without leaking out. The added genius of the disappearing Slide & Hide oven door allows full frontal access without having to reach across hot glass, see the video below.
The features don’t end there though. Say goodbye to noxious chemicals and scrubbing. As we mentioned, cleaning this oven is a breeze. The reason for this is the modern wonder of a Pyrolytic self-cleaning programme. Combined with a high quality lining, pyrolytic cleaning heats the oven up to an incredible 500°C, literally reducing any spillages to ash which is then easily wiped away with a cloth. It is clever enough to lock the oven door when cleaning is in progress, so you can’t open it at these temperatures and inadvertently burn yourself with a whoosh of super heated air. Find out more about the Pyrolytic self-cleaning in the video below.
A complete Built-In or integrated appliance fitting service is available at Chapmans, please enquire when purchasing. We can even make any necessary cabinet modifications required to install your appliance for you and install power outlets if there are none currently available.
