Finalists in the Family Business Awards 2016

Chapmans Electrical - Family Business Awards Finalists 2016It’s with great pride that we can officially announce that Chapmans Electrical are finalists in not just one, but two of the top categories in the Family Business Awards 2016!

The Family Business Awards is a non profit initiative. This is the seventh year they have been held. Thanks to the amazing generosity of sponsors, the awards raise a huge amount of money for charity whilst recognising the many achievements of family business from right across the Midlands.

The official Family Business Awards Finalist documents arrived this week and we’re absolutely thrilled. Last year we won the award for Service Excellence, recognising our ongoing commitment to great customer service, and reached the finals in the Retail Excellence category.

This year we’re in two of the most prized and most competitive categories.

Best Small Family Business – sponsored by Bedrock Tax
Corporate Social Responsibility – sponsored by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust

The selection process is quite involved, with initial entry, shortlisting and choosing finalists, then interviews with the judges and sometimes a site visit too. Wish us luck!

Make a note of November the 17th in your diary. It is the awards ceremony and dinner, when we join the other finalists at a glittering, glamorous night where we find out who won!

The award for Best Small Family Business looks in depth at the structure and nature of the business itself. It takes into account how family values and family members have guided the development of the business, the board and ownership structure and how decisions are made. Other important factors include personal development, innovation, overcoming adversity and commitment to the community.

The Corporate Social Responsibility award recognises family businesses that are committed to making a difference through their activities. Those who’s values have a positive impact on their people, their community and the environment.

Chapmans has always played an active part in our local community. It’s something we truly believe in.  We’ve been a part of it for more than 90 years now, having been established as an electrical contractor by Ewart Chapman and family members back in 1925 – when industrial use of electricity was still in it’s infancy and domestic use quite rare. We’re proud of our Black Country heritage, sponsor local sports teams and social events and have many charitable interests. We’re active in relevant industry bodies too and members of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce. Our community is very important to us and as family and friends we overcome adversity together.
